David Grote
Since he organized his own theatre company in Wichita Falls, Texas, at age eighteen, David Grote has directed more than 150 productions. He headed an independent student company at the University of Texas. He later taught and directed theatre programs in high schools in Bakersfield, California, for eleven years before moving to Scripps College in Claremont, California. Since the mid-eighties, he has been a freelance director based in San Francisco, but he has continued to work regularly with high school and college student actors in workshops, summer programs and as a guest artist. He is the artistic director of the Classic Theater Project in San Francisco and has been a regular artist-in-residence at the San Francisco School of the Arts. He is the author of many books and critical studies dealing with a wide variety of subjects concerning theatre production. Eleven of his plays have been produced. His seven one-act published plays are used in high school competitions nationwide.
